Welcome to the new eForum - 'Accelerating-Prevention' !

Southern Africa HIV and AIDS Information and Dissemination Service (SAfAIDS) with technical support from Health and Development Networks (HDN) and financial support from the Joint United Nations Program on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) are delighted to announce the launch of the new, time-limited electronic discussion on ‘Accelerating HIV Prevention’.

About the discussion
The current discussions on the need to design appropriate HIV prevention interventions for sub-Saharan Africa present a unique opportunity for launching a dialogue around prevention-related issues. Targeting stakeholders in eastern and southern Africa, the discussion will discuss pertinent HIV prevention issues that will inform programme design and implementation across the region.

Phase I
The Phase I discussion on the Accelerating-Prevention eForum was launched in April 2007 and was scheduled to run for an initial period of six months from Monday, 30 April to the end of October 2007. However, due to the overwhelming and exciting discussions that took place, it is now being continued and it is still in its phase one. It is aimed at stimulating lively exchange and constructive dialogue on topical HIV prevention issues in Eastern and Southern Africa and informing programme design and implementation, building on the SADC Think Tank meeting that took place in May 2006.

The discussion on Accelerating-Prevention Phase I aims to:

- create a space for an expert, focused discussion on key issues related to HIV prevention in Eastern and Southern Africa
- stimulate further discussion on the conclusions of the SADC Think Tank Meeting, May 2006

- creating a space for people in Eastern and Southern Africa to share knowledge, skills and experiences in HIV prevention
